Family Planning:

We offer confidential advice to patients of all ages. We are qualified and interested in providing contraceptive services, including the morning after pill and offering general advice as well as discussing infertility problems and erectile dysfunction. Confidential contraceptive and emergency contraceptive advice is provided to patients in all age groups. Pregnancy test results are available immediately.

Travel Vaccinations:

Make an appointment early to ensure adequate cover. Vaccinations available include, vaccinations against Typhoid, Cholera, Yellow Fever, Hepatitis, Tetanus, Polio and Malaria Prophylaxis is also available. Castleknock Clinic is now an authorised Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre.

Influenza Vaccine:

Influenza is a serious illness. Protection should be considered for persons at special risk. Use of the vaccine can minimise the use of antibiotics and time lost from work. The vaccine would be particularly suitable for people who have lung, heart, kidney disease or diabetes, or those who are meeting large numbers of people during the course of their day.

Cervical Smears:

A cervical smear is a test done to detect early cancer changes in the cervix ( neck of the womb). A cervical smear test is recommended every three years. Cancer of the cervix can be prevented by detection at the pre-cancerous stage. Pre-cancerous cells can be simply and easily treated on an out-patient basis.

Reducing your Risk of Cancer:

See a doctor if you notice a lump, change in a mole or abnormal bleeding. See the doctor if you have persistent problems, such as persistent cough, persistent hoarseness, a change in bowel habit or unexplained weight loss. It is recommended that women have a cervical smear test done every three years, check their breasts regularly and have a mammogram every two years.

Acupuncture:

Acupuncture can be used to treat pain, stiffness and muscle spasm and has been found to be particularly helpful for neck pain, low back pain and sports injuries.

Manipulation:

Manipulation of the spine and adjustment of the small joints can help to relieve neck pain and stiffness, chest pain and stiffness and low back pain and stiffness. Relief can be permanent and minimise the need for medication.

Womens’ Health, Menopause Clinic & HRT:

Cervical Smears are recommended every three years, mammograms every two years while HRT ( hormone replacement therapy), if suitable and indicated, can help relieve distressing menopausal symptoms and improve quality of life.

Mens’ Health Screening:

A painless physical examination and simple blood test can detect prostate cancer at a stage when it is easily treated. Men are advised to check their testicles frequently for lumps as testicular cancer can be treated simply if detected early.
